Peeling
One of the least wasteful processes. A log is peeled and either steamed or held in a hot water bath before being put into a giant lathe. The wood is then peeled by a large knife slowly drawn to the center of the log.
Slicing
After the log is steamed or held in hot water, it is then held in place and a large knife is drawn up and down, creating sheets of veneer.
Sawing
The most wasteful process which can result in 50% material loss but has the least chance of resulting in . A large circular saw is used as the log or plank is pushed onto the saw by machine or hand.
