Sword
A sword is an edged, bladed weapon intended for manual cutting or thrusting. Its blade, longer than a knife or dagger, is attached to a hilt and can be straight or curved. Many swords are designed for both thrusting and slashing. The precise definition of a sword varies by historical epoch and geographic region. Historically, the sword developed in the Bronze Age, evolving from the dagger. The later Iron Age sword remained fairly short and without a crossguard.
Materials needed
- Wood: A plank should usually work. The wood needs to be checked for rottenness.[1]
- Woodworking knife: Preferably sharp and sturdy.[1]
Crafting instructions (wood sword)
To check the wood for rottenness, strike it against a hard surface. Replace the wood if it cracks or breaks. When using a plank for crafting, draw an outline of the sword with a pointed or angled tip. Use a hand saw to cut free excess length from the wood, and carve away wood with a woodworking knife. The blade(s) should narrow on their sharp sides.[1]
Make sure to test the sword's weight, which also depends on the type of wood used. If the sword is too heavy, continue to shave away wood, but care should be taken not to make the blade or handle too thin, as it can compromise its sturdiness.[1]
Afterwards, use a sandpaper to remove the rough, irregular edges and burrs in the blade and handle. Wrap the handle with duct tape to provide a better grip to the sword.[1]
