Easiest Disinfectant: Sterile Saline Solution (0.9% NaCl)

Why It’s Good:

  • Cleans debris and bacteria from wounds
  • Non-irritating and safe for skin and eyes
  • Can be used even on sensitive wounds or burns

How to Make It at Home:

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter of clean (preferably boiled or distilled) water
  • 9 grams of table salt (about 1.5 teaspoons, non-iodized)

Steps:

  1. Boil the water for 10–15 minutes to sterilize it.
  2. Let it cool slightly but remain warm.
  3. Dissolve the salt completely in the water.
  4. Store in a clean, covered container (preferably sterilized).
  5. Use within 24 hours if not stored sterilely. If stored in a sterilized, sealed container: up to 2–3 days in the fridge.

Important Notes:

  • Saline solution is for rinsing and cleaning, not a full antiseptic.
