Computers, at least at the time of writing, are tools used to make calculations and use digital applications, as a web browser, or a text editor. Most computers made after the 1960s use to some degree Electricity, some don't use a lot, like calculators, some, like desktop computers use a lot.

All computers all have the same general components, RAM, processing power via the CPU (Central Processing Unit), and an operating system to run/execute applications, and usually need computer peripherals, like keyboards to type, or mouses to use the mouse cursor.

Making a modern computer by hand or from scratch is difficult, requiring advanced electronics, hardware and software knowledge and skill.

Uses of a computer

Computers hold a sizable chunk of our life now days. Some of our needs, like streaming entertainment are only possible due to our technological advancements, like integrated circuits which have made computers a wide commodity.

Brief history on computers

Computers started as a job title, the workers would compute large tables of equations. This was replaced in the 1940 when large computers called mainframes where used to compute programs, they use mechanical switches such as relays and vacuum tubes. With the introduction of the electrical transistors around the 1950s (See more about electronic science), making large and complex electrical circuits became more and more viable, and the same advancements were carried over to computing, like the Intel 4004, a 4-bit computer which had a transistor count of 2,250 transistors back in 1971, as opposed to Apple's M1 chip, from 2020, at 16,000,000,000 transistors, which is approximately 7,111,111 times more transistors.
