When someone is unconscious without an obvious cause you must check for responsiveness with first loud verbal stimuli. If they do not react proceed to painful stimuli with a trapezius pinch. If they are still unresponsive check a carotid pulse for 5-10 seconds. If there is no carotid pulse you must being Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. For the layperson hands-only CPR is the best option. Press hard and fast on the lower third of the sternal plate at a rate of 100-120 beats per minute and with a depth of 2 inches for an adult patient. More to be added.
