Definition
A cannon is a firearm that shoots large projectiles, most commonly using explosive fuel. A predecessor to modern firearms, early cannons fired cannonballs using black powder.
Crafting instructions
- Create a positive of the cannon out of an easily worked material, such as wood. This can be done on a lathe. It will not include a bore.
- Create a two piece sand mold of the wooden cannon, with included funnel and gas channels.
- Melt enough cast iron to fill the mold and carefully pour.
- When solidified, demold and mount in lathe.
- Bore the barrel to slightly over the diameter of cannonballs.
- Drill a small hole to intercept the end of the barrel for firing.
*why does everybody put crafting instructions on these things, like what????*
To use
- Place an appropriate charge of black power at the end of the barrel.
- If the cannonball is to loose in the barrel, add wadding between the charge and projectile.
- Push projectile to end of barrel.
- To arm, either (1) place fuse in small hole, or (2) fill hole with fine black power.
- To fire, either (1) light the fuse, or (2) light fuse powder.
