Iron ores are among the most abundant in the planet's crust, requiring kilns or furnaces to extract usable metal. Humans started to master that process in Eurasia, and the displacement of copper alloys to the use of iron tools and weapon is considered the transition from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age.
