Wrought iron (or soft iron) is an iron allow with very low carbon content which has the property of being forged and hammered to consolidate and shape the metal. It melts at temperatures above 1500 °C, is not very tough and can be welded by forging.
Uses
Industrial processes in the 19th century made it possible to produce wrought iron in large quantities, so that this material could be used in the construction of large architectural and engineering structures.
