Bromine is a chemical element with symbol Br and number 35. It is a red-brown, highly toxic liquid at room temperature, with a strong unpleasant odour. It readily gives off a brown gas and is irritant to the skin, eyes and respiratory system. Bromine can be found primarily as soluble bromides such as magnesium bromide in seawater[1].

Production
Bromine can be extracted from seawater by displacement by chlorine in the presence of sulphuric acid. It should be stored in well-sealed glass or lead-lined containers.
