Baking soda

Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is a slightly salty inorganic compound. It's most commonly used in food, as well as for cleaning.

Materials needed

• Soda Ash
• Carbonated Water

Crafting instructions

Baking soda can most easily be made by simply dissolving soda ash (sodium carbonate) in carbonated water. The carbonated water dissolves and carbonates the soda ash, creating baking soda (sodium bicarbonate).

Uses

Leavening Agent

When added to dough that contains an acid, baking soda will create gas causing the dough to expand.

Cleaning

Baking soda can be used to remove paint and corrosion from metals.

Medical

Baking soda is a mild antiseptic when mixed with water, and can be used to keep teeth and gums clean.
